So, I snagged this old lantern at an estate sale. Information technology's a Coleman 220F dated 1970. Got it domicile, and lit information technology upwards on the fuel in the fount/mantles that were already installed. (who knows how old it is) She sputtered a bit, but lit up fine! She held pressure the unabridged following nighttime.

She's a bit of a ameliorate. While there's no dints in the metal, the paint is worn/chipped. The burner tubes are caked upwardly on the outside and the frame is a bit Rusty (I call up some vinegar and steel wool will fix all of the in a higher place).

I'm planning on tearing it down, cleaning it up and replacing the generator and gaskets. Here's my question: Should I stop at that place, or do a total restoration? This would be a first restoration project for me. I'thou guessing that the full restore will cost me around $30 (including reproduction labels), while a functional tear downwardly volition toll about half as much. Your thoughts?

I have a few lanterns and have left them as original as possible (sometimes the fuel caps or pumps demand to be replaced). I oft see repainted ones at antiquarian stores and I personally don't treat the look of them. My 2 cents.

Cheers! That'southward probably what I'll current of air upwards doing. In fact, I might simply grab up a bottle of fuel and some new mantles and see what happens for a night. Definitely a clean upward, though.

Cleaned up a bit I think that would look actually good. I believe there's no demand to practice a full restoration; it would have away some of its graphic symbol.

That's what I'one thousand thinking. Give it a adept cleaning and make sure it works for a night. Otherwise, leave it as-is.
